SEKOU
Hello, my name is Sekou and I’m a sixth grader at the Nativity School. It is much different from public school and I enjoy going to there for many reasons. One reason is because there are smaller class sizes so you can hear more. Also, there are no girls to distract you or get you in trouble since there are all boys who can play rough. Another difference is that the classes are hard, and you have to study more and if you don’t do your homework, you get detention. Additionally, some of the teachers are nice, especially Mr. H, who talks about football for boys who like sports. I also like homeroom because we talk about sports and can talk to our friends. |

ALEXANNE
My name is Alexanne. I attend Assumption BVM School in Feasterville, Pennsylvania. I am in the sixth grade. Assumption B.V.M. is a Catholic school that I am very proud to go to. I understand that going to a Catholic school is a privilege. I feel safe when I am in school. I know when we all pray together in church, God can do anything. In the sixth grade, we are learning the financial needs it takes to attend Assumption. My school has many things that other schools near by do not have. Religion is an important one. I always try to do my best. My grandfather is now in Heaven. He once told me “those who work the hardest, will win the most.” I know he is smiling proudly at me. I have been a straight A student since the first grade. One day, I would like to be an English professor. I would like to attend Villa Joseph Marie High School because it has many wonderful English programs. It also teaches Latin and has a Latin Club. I know my family does not have the money to send me there without a scholarship, like the scholarship I receive from BLOCS. I hope that someday I will have the privilege to attend this high school, which would help me achieve my future goals. |

JAELYN
I decided to homeschool my daughter when I learned that our school district would be changing kindergarten from a half-day program to a full-day program. I felt that a full day was too long for her age.
I later discovered PA Cyber School in the Pittsburgh Mills Mall, [and learned] that anyone could use it. Previously, I thought cyber school was only offered if you had a child with disabilities, or if you had a child that was so far ahead that the district recommended it.
Although I originally planned to keep Jaelyn home only for kindergarten, my plans changed when I saw how she thrived in this home environment—given the attention, time and less mental and physical distractions than a school would offer. Jaelyn is in first grade— reading at a 3rd grade level.

{Brianna Mitchell} |
Initially, Brianna was shy, unsure of herself and afraid to ask questions in class. Because of the small class size and the individual attention she received from the teachers at Erie Day School, Brianna was able to grow and has become more self-confident.
They “pulled out the Brianna we always knew was inside of her.” Brianna is in the third grade and is an excellent student.
Brianna loves her science classes, and would like to be a scientist when she grows up. |
